Libertarian files for Secretary of State

Jake Porter

Libertarian Jake Porter has filed the necessary 1,500 valid petition signatures to get his name placed on the November general election ballot.

Porter, 22, is a former member of the Libertarian National Committee and lives in Des Moines. He promises to cut the Secretary of State’s pay in half by more than $50,000 a year if elected and recently received 8 percent of the vote in the Johnson County mock election.

Porter faces Democrat incumbent Michael Mauro and Republican Matt Schultz in the November election.

The Libertarian Party is Iowa’s third largest political party.
