Poll has good news, bad news for Iowa GOP challengers

There’s good news and bad news in a poll released Sept. 9 by an Iowa-based conservative political group.

A poll for the American Future Fund by Voter/Consumer Research found that Iowa voters are rejecting Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s “liberal agenda.”

The poll of 300 Iowans Aug. 31 to Sept. 3 found a minority of voters believe incumbent Democratic congressmen deserve re-election. The percentage of those polled who believe Reps. Bruce Braley, Dave Loebsack and Leonard Boswell in  Iowa’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd districts, respectively were 39, 40 and 49 percent.

“Iowa’s Democratic congressman are so closely tied with Nancy Pelosi’s liberal agenda that they have become disconnected from Iowa values,” said AFF Spokesperson Nick Ryan. “Their constituents strongly disagreed with them on issues ranging from the outrageous government spending to health care.”

However, in head-to-head-matchups with their Republican challengers, all three came out winners. Braley topped Ben Lange 50 percent to 39 percent. Loebsack outpolled Mariannette Miller-Meeks 47 to 39 percent. Boswell topped Sen. Brad Zaun 48 to 39 percent.

“No matter how they try to spin it, these results only further prove that Iowa families have no interest in returning to the GOP’s failed policies that drove our economy into the ditch,” said Gabby Adler, Midwestern Regional press Secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Privatizing Social Security, ending Medicare as we know it, and rewarding corporations for shipping Iowa jobs overseas to countries like Mexico, China, and India are not the solutions Iowans are looking for, but it’s all Iowa Republicans have to offer.”
