Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, a possible contender for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination, will visit Iowa on a book tour in January.

Pawlenty, who is leaving office after two terms, is scheduled to visit Ankeny, Waukee and West Des Moines to promote his book, “Courage to Stand: An American Story.”

The two-day visit will Pawlenty’s eighth swing through Iowa, the state that hosts the first-in-the-nation caucuses. He also is going to New Hampshire, which hosts the first-in-the-nation primary, where he will speak at Politics and Eggs, in Bedford, which is considered a must-do event for potential presidential candidates.

In all, Pawlenty’s book tour will take him to eight stgates as well as “the View” and “The Daily Show.”

• Jan. 31 — book signing, West Des Moines
